Does your cellular provider offer an email --> SMS gateway? I'm not sure about in Australia, but in the backwards U.S. most providers do it in the form of <cellnumber>@<special provider domain> such as <cellnumber>@mobile.mycingular.com, etc.
It may be easier to do it that way, if such a service is available.
