Nagios failing to check services

I know this does not really help, but you asked the question if this was
a known problem... I'm sure there are many "little" bugs to Nagios but
primarily, if you have a problem, it's because you configured it wrong.
I'd begin by investigating dependencies (It sounds to me like you are
using them) Are you suppressing checks if a master service is down? If
you are, that might be a big problem.
