check_nagios isn't very smart.

Well, it DOES work, in that it does what I say. But it only does what I
*want* if I turn on log_service_retries, as I said (which, as far as I'm
concerned, is a waste of space).
I did think of something, though.
How could nagios know if nagios is off? If it's off, it's not checking
things. Or am I missing something?
So, what is the function of "checking" nagios with nagios.
Why shouldn't I just set check_nagios to -e 9999999999999 and just let
it tell me when the log was updated as information, as opposed to
determining the state of the daemon?
or is my brain hiccuping on this?
