Mulitple status map views?

I would like to create status maps based upon region of infrastructure.  
I would like to not see any greyed out parts
of the infrastructure as displaying those parts takes up a large chunk 
of the resulting image.  In my mind, I need to
have multiple copies of nagios, with a different config for each 
region.  Can I do this without causing a doubling up on polling?
Can this be done by setting up only passive monitoring (read/write of 
the DB) and no freshness checks?  Does anyone have
an example where they have already done this?
