Miscellaneous Questions

A few unrelated questions follow. In case it's relevant to any of these
questions, I'm using nagios 1.2.

Is there an easy way to make all services that use nrpe, dependent on the
nrpe service? What I mean is, do I have to setup a service dependency for
each one, or is there a shorthand method?

What is the difference between defining a host parent and a host
dependency?

Lastly, has anyone had success with the check_dhcp program in the contrib
directory of nagios-plugins? It seems to execute a dhcp request correctly,
but returns an error. Here is the debug output:

# ./check_dhcp
DHCP socket: 3
Hardware address: 00:90:27:5f:4d:d1

DHCPDISCOVER to 255.255.255.255 port 67
DHCPDISCOVER XID: 918158650 (0x36B9FD3A)
DHCDISCOVER ciaddr: 0.0.0.0
DHCDISCOVER yiaddr: 0.0.0.0
DHCDISCOVER siaddr: 0.0.0.0
DHCDISCOVER giaddr: 0.0.0.0
send_dhcp_packet result: 548

No (more) data recieved
Result=ERROR
Total responses seen on the wire: 0
Valid responses for this machine: 0
DHCP problem: No DHCPOFFERs were received.

But the dhcp daemon log shows:

Apr 9 23:30:50 server dhcpd: DHCPDISCOVER from 00:90:27:5f:4d:d1 via eth0
Apr 9 23:30:51 server dhcpd: DHCPOFFER on 10.1.0.189 to 00:90:27:5f:4d:d1 via eth0

Thank you,
Cory Visi
