That isn't really the point -- cron is most defininetly sending emails
directly to the responsible party and waking them up at night.
Unfortunately that completely skips the datacenter group who is supposed
to handle these events, but they only watch a monitoring console fed by
various monitoring tools. If there is a sensible way to monitor these
sort of once-per-day events in Nagios then I'd rather do that and take
advantage of the reporting and integration benefits it provides. The
cron-emails take care of the functional aspect of notifying someone but it
means some people get woken up in the middle of the night unnecessairily.
