More On Status.Log

All,
I wrote a while back about status.log not being
created. I seem to have gotten distracted, and
ended up closing the thread myself by quoting from the
page I RTFM'ed.
However, the larger issue was that I am faced with:
"It appears as though Nagios is not running, so
commands are temporarily unavailable."
in the "Process Commands" box.
In my cgi.cfg, I have:
nagios_check_command=/usr/nagios/libexec/check_nagios
/var/nagios/status.log 5 '/usr/nagios/bin/nagios'
but since the status.log file is never created, it can
never check the process.
(Also, my nagios process looks like "[nagios]" in the
output of ps ax, instead of "/usr/nagios/bin/nagios",
in case that makes a difference.)
I would like to be able to look at Process Commands,
and get rid of the CRITICAL error message in "Process
Status Information".
My nagios.cfg has:
status_file=/var/nagios/status.log
I am running Nagios 1.1 on Gentoo, with MySQL.
Thanks in advance for any and all help.
Tom
