I run Nagios and Cacti (and other tools) via a 'portal' and have a
'single sign-on' system, which consists of Apache HTTP basic auth (as
usual with Nagios) and the other tools, like Cacti, inherit that from
the environment. Note that the patch in the aforementioned post is just
to bypass the Cacti auth mechanism. You still have to create the users
in Cacti (using the same user name as specified for Nagios, of course)
and leave 'use Cactis built-in authentication' ENABLED (it is bypassed
by the patch).
