error on HP-UX while compiling plugins 1.4 and 1.3

HP-UX comes with a compiler that is intended to be used only for compiling
the kernel. If you don't have another compiler on it, you'll likely find
yourself having problems compiling any nummber of different things.

It's not so much a requirement for GNU make as it is a requirement for 
something else than HP's make, which is old, ugly and more than a little 
incompetent.
