notification message customizing

dear group ;
thanx for your help now nsclient work well and i recieve the notifications .
i begin using nagmin and it is realy wonderful . the problem now is the
message that i recieve has no subject and also the message appear on one
line .
i use the " notify -by-mail"  command which is as follow :
 /usr/bin/printf \"%b\" \"***** Nagios *****\n\nNotification Type:
$NOTIFICATIONTYPE$\n\nService: $SERVICEDESC$\nHost: $HOSTALIAS$\nAddress:
$HOSTADDRESS$\nState: $SERVICESTATE$\n\nDate/Time: $DATETIME$\n\nAdditional
Info:\n\n$OUTPUT$\" | /bin/mail -s \"** $NOTIFICATIONTYPE$ alert -
$HOSTALIAS$/$SERVICEDESC$ is $SERVICESTATE$ **\" $CONTACTEMAIL$

it seems that "\n" is not interpreted as newline how can i solve this
problem.and how make the message has a meaningful subject.
