I hesitate to respond, being new at the game, but since I can
successfully use extended host info...
You DO need the 'one liner' in cgi.cfg:
xedtemplate_config_file=/usr/local/nagios/etc/hostextdef.cfg
or, whatever you've called your hostextinfo.cfg file...it works
