Parent of nagios?

On a related note, I have a device (A) I would like to configure with two parents (B and C). If I do enable this configuration, when will nagios notifications be suppressed?

1. Only when BOTH parents (B and C) are down?
2. When EITHER parent (B or C) is down?

Also, is this behavior configurable? If so, how?
