Some advanced reporting

I am looking at the monitoring and see some great capabilities, but need some reporting power. As I am sure most of you have in your environments, there are redundant systems and we need to report uptime statistics of services. I was wondering if someone has found a way to do this better than parsing the logs.
An example of what I am trying to do is to have something setup, maybe a separate service or service group, that we would be able to identify a specific service from and have dependencies on all the servers that run the service. This would be for things like mail or dns. Mail is sometimes easier since we can monitor the cluster link, but dns generally works on a failover basis. Any help would be great.
