Nagios Issues

Hey,

Nagios is telling me this:

It appears as though Nagios is not running, so commands are
temporarily unavailable...

Even though nagios is indeed running on my box.

[root at monitor1 root]# ps -awwx | grep nagios
 3900 ?        S      0:34 /usr/local/nagios/bin/nagios -d
/usr/local/nagios/etc/nagios.cfg
 3581 pts/0    S      0:00 grep nagios
[root at monitor1 root]# 

Could anyone kindly hit me with a clue bat so I know which direction I
need to look to fix this?
