Do you have more than 1 ip on your nagios server? and only 1 allowed in 
the nrpe client?

If the interfaces(eth0/eth1) switch then that would explain the error.

If not, try setting debugging to 1 in the client nrpe.cfg file and see 
if you can get some info there.
