Notification problem (3rd attempt)

A couple things you could try:

Check the permissions on both /bin/mail and /usr/bin/printf. Perhaps the
Nagios user doesn't have permission to execute one or both of these programs
and thus cannot send the notifications? Try becoming the Nagios user (su -
nagios) or add yourself to the Nagios group and run the command from
misccommands.cfg again.

Try defining some other type of notification command. For example, instead
of the "/usr/bin/printf "%b" ... in misccommands.cfg for the
notify-phone-by-email definition, run something like "echo $DATETIME$ >
/tmp/somefile" and see if /tmp/somefile exists and contains $DATETIME$ when
you see the notification message in the logs.
