check_tcp behavior

You could try it against the application and see what happens. That
would tell you if it breaks the application. That would be better than
taking the word of somebody who doesn't really have a clue what they're
talking about, like some posters to this list.
You could run it against something like a telnet daemon and look at
the traffic using tcpdump. That would tell you exactly what it is
doing.
You could even (gasp) read the documentation which tells you how to find
out what plugins do and then use that knowledge to find out what the
check_tcp plugin does.

How about asking the developers who are programming this application to
do your job for you? Or have you already asked them and told you to
figure it out for yourself? Did you tell them that you don't know what
you're doing and you should be replaced with somebody who has a vague
sort of clue about *nix admin and networking?
Or are you just trolling?
