Nagios Process

Anyone who can shed some light,

I have installed Nagios version 1.2 and have everything pretty much up and
running OK.
I compiled it to use a MySQL backend (and I am not too experienced with
this)

But I have the following issue:

When viewing "Process Info", it states that the Nagios process is not
running (but it is) and gives "Error: Cannot open status log for reading!"

I am very confused by this, any help would be greatly appreciated or
pointers to some more documentation.
