NRPE Daemon not running

hi,

I have complied the nrpe on the remote host and added
the nrpe service in xinetd.d with proper arguments.
when i restart the service, the port seems to be
closed and i am not able to open the port:5666. I
tried running it as a standalone daemon also, but
failed to start the daemon, I am not getting any error
messages when starting the daemon.. I checked thru ps
-ef |grep nrpe but the daemon seems not be started.

Please help me in this regard.
