Services Stuck in Pending State

You might want to check if there old Nagios processes hanging around. Try
shutting down nagios with "service nagios stop", then "ps -ef | grep -I
nagios". If anything is still there use kill to get rid of it/them. Also
check that there are not hung service checks and kill them if needed.
Nagios will not run another instance of a service check if the previous one
has not exited. But, you should get messages in the log files that the
previous check was running and the new one skipped. If the system is clean,
restart with "service nagios start".

Hope that helps,

Subject: [Nagios-users] Services Stuck in Pending State

Hello,

I emailed this problem out a while back when using Nagios 1.2 and RH9 as
my OS, and now I've upgrade from 1.0 to 1.2 for Solaris and have the same
problem....

I added some service checks to some hosts and the services checks never
change from pending. You can see the duration go from 0 to 5 minutes (the
check interval), then reset to 0, and it never changes from pending. No
erros, no messages logged in log files. This never happend with 1.0, only
on 1.2. These same service checks run fine from command line. Also,
there is no consistancy. All my servers are basically identical, and the
same service checks works as expect to one host, and is stuck in Pending
on the next host....

Any suggestions?

Jeff Scott
