Setting Up Notifications to email me

Hello all,
So I am looking for the straightforward way to set up
Nagios to email me when a host goes down, restart
etc..

I have read this page:
http://192.168.1.119/nagios/docs/notifications.html
Howere is very complicated and good if I want to do
some fancy stuff I'm sure, but to just sinply send an
email for all activity it doesn treally go into.

I have found the "define_contact" function in the
minimal.cfg file, I set it up with my email address,
but no go.

Any help or reference is much appreciated.
