Alias instead of hostname in summary pages cgi

So has anyone actually done this (consistently shown alias in place of
hostname) or is there an existing patch out there?

No, but it is possible to exchange host_name for alias (assuming you"re
willing to remove whitespace and other non-allowed chars).

Naturally, but it would require a couple of alterations of the code. If
you are to create a patch, try to make it a configurable option, and
I"m
sure Ethan won"t mind incorporating it. That way you can update the
program without risk of it breaking.
