Can't Compile nrpe on Solaris 8 - getopt_long error

Hi,
I am getting the below error when compiling NRPE on a SPARC Solaris 8 machine

gcc -g -O2 -I/usr/local/ssl/include/openssl -I/usr/local/ssl/include -DHAVE_CONF
IG_H -o nrpe nrpe.c utils.c -L/usr/local/ssl/lib/  -lssl -lcrypto -lnsl -lsocket
/local1/local/bin/../lib/gcc/sparc-sun-solaris2.8/3.4.0/../../../../sparc-sun-so
laris2.8/bin/ld: Dwarf Error: Invalid or unhandled FORM value: 14.
