nagios-2.0b3 and nagios-plugins-1.4

Can nagios-plugins-1.4 be used with nagios-2.0b3?  I'm looking at the
commands.cfg that came int he nagios-plugins package and it seems that
the syntax for defining a check command has changed.  While it would
only be a trivial matter to fix the syntax, I'm wondering if I'm
possibly barking up the wrong tree for getting nagios configured
properly.
