Taking a poll, Remote or Not Remote.

I just started down the road to install Nagios, 

I just wanted to know what the lists thoughts were on where
to install Nagios. I was thinking to install it remote from the 
network that is going to be monitored but are there any benefits
to putting it in the same network.
