Web page stops updating

I've searched the archives but been unable to find anything similar.
Apologies if this is a simple configuration error.

I am monitoring around 15 servers with Nagios/Nrpe. Occasionally Nagios
stops requesting updates from the clients, which I only noticed when a RAID
system developed a problem that Nagios didn't alert me to. The "Last Check"
time showed that the service hadn't been checked for a number of hours.
Stopping and starting the Nagios server fixes the problem.

What should I check, or what information can I provide, to help find this
problem?
