Running nagios

Hi

I'm setting up Nagios and I'm trying to run it but I'm receiving the message 

"No lock file found in /usr/local/nagios/var/nagios.lock".

In fact there is no file in the mentioned directory. I really don't no if daemons has either the pid file created before it runs or at the time that they get started.

So... any help will be welcome.
