pros/cons of using MySQL?

In that implementation yes I agree completely. But I can see areas
where db support would be useful within nagios. For example the
ability to store/file/categorize acknowledgements of problems, or
outage messages/notes etc about a given system would be quite handy
and would allow for them to be kept, but not immediately visible. Or
linking host/service extra info in a database with configurable
feilds. date purchased, warranty info, POC, etc. I think these would
all be good ties with nagios, but I'm not smart enough yet to code
them in or submit patches.
