timing

Hello There. I am a new user to the nagios version 2.0b4 running on a
linux As 2.1. I have defined the services, hosts and timeperiods. My
problem is as I am monitoring the servers, I immediately shutdown one of
my servers hoping the status turns from GREEN to RED. It does not do
that unless I re-start the web server. What am I doing wrong?
