Nagios external command file

Hi People!

I'm trying to use failover monitoring and for that i'm
trying to pass commands to the external command file.

i tried this for example:

 echo "`date +%s` 1;ENABLE_NOTIFICATIONS" >> nagios.cmd

or simply:

 echo "ENABLE_NOTIFICATIONS" >> nagios.cmd


and others, but none seem to work.


Can you help me and give an example how to do it right?
