NRPE Error

Have you checked the Windows server you are monitoring to be sure the
agent/client is responding to queries? It should log a message in the
event log.
I've had a few Windows servers where another service/application would
dynamically grab port 1248 and when the Nagios agent tried to bind to
that port it was unsuccessful. On the servers where that has happened, I
created a copy of the check_nt command and modified the port it uses.
Then, on the monitored server changed the port in the registry and
restart the Nagios agent.
Hope that helps....or at least doesn't make matters any worse...

Subject: [Nagios-users] NRPE Error
Hello,
I have been trying to get a resolution to this problem for several days.
I have fedora 5, Nagios 2.4 with plugins 1.4.3 and NRPE 2.0 installed. I
installed the NSClient++ on the windows 2003 server and changed the
settings in the nsc.ini file. I run the command check_nrpe command from
the command line on the nagios server and I immediately get the error
"connection refused by host".
I tried the following.
I used my computer as a test. And I was able to run the command and get
a response from my workstation, with the pnsclient and the check_nt
command
I think that it is either a password issue or port issue that the
windows 2003 is refusing the connection.
I also tried the following
I installed the pnsclient on the windows 2003 server and ran the
check_nt and it worked.
The next question is which one is best to use the NSClient++ or the
pNSclient?
Thanks for any insight
