Problem Starting Nagios 2.5

Hi there -

 

I just completed installing Nagios 2.5 and I am having problems starting the
application as either nagios or root users. 

The messages file in the /var/log directory has the following entry:

 

 

 

I checked the permissions for the nagios.lock file, and they are as follows:

 

 

 

What changes do I need to make to correct this? Thanks.
