Nagios has a hard time scheduling > 3000 checks

We have a total of over 9000 check_snmp polling based checks for snmp
ports on devices in our enterprise. Nagios is having a really hard time
scheduling them.

How can I get nagios to completely forget about trying to reduce the
load on the "monitoring" host and I could care less about interleave and
all that stuff. I have tried many many different combinations of options
in the nagios.cfg. It appears that the default setting is the best and
*ONLY* configuration that will even allow checks to be scheduled.

I just want Nagios to schedule and execute all checks in a timely
fashion. Ideally they would each individual check would be scheduled and
executed at least once every 10 minutes. Is this possible?
