Try check_tcp on port 80.
Or just use check_http because it will tell you how much time it too to
get a reply. Like: HTTP OK HTTP/1.1 200 OK - 4742 bytes in 0.114
seconds
All you need to do is setup a performance monitor. Checkout
http://www.nagiosexchange.org/ for one that fits you.
