NRPE

There's definitely connectivity of some variety.

Whenever I issue a command from nagios machine to nrpe host, the log on
nrpe host shows...

Jul 28 13:18:47 dell05 nrpe[5117]: Could not read request from client,
bailing out...

All your definitions look alright at a glance...

Check the following:
* firewall
* access control list in /usr/local/nagios/etc/nrpe.cfg
* access control list in /etc/hosts.allow
* try telnet-ing to the NRPE port, from the Nagios server.
