NSCA stops listening

I'm having an issue with NSCA 2.6. I'm starting it in daemon mode like:
/usr/local/nagios/bin/nsca -c /usr/local/nagios/etc/nsca.cfg --daemon
Everything works great until I get this:
Jun 20 09:32:57 monitor14 nsca[18664]: Network server accept failure
(9: Bad file descriptor)
At that time the daemon is still running but it is no longer
listening on port 5667. This is Mac OS X Server 10.4.6. I have
logging enabled:
root# cat /usr/local/nagios/etc/nsca.cfg
pid_file=/var/run/nsca.pid
server_port=5667
server_address=XXXX
#allowed_hosts=XXXX
nsca_user=nagios
nsca_group=nagios
#nsca_chroot=/var/run/nagios/rw
debug=1
command_file=/var/nagios/rw/nagios.cmd
alternate_dump_file=/var/nagios/rw/nsca.dump
aggregate_writes=0
append_to_file=0
max_packet_age=60
password=XXXXX
decryption_method=1
