Nagios upgrade from 1.x to 2, 5 - how to keep status and retention data?

Status and retention data is transient, it's only useful if you're
restarting a large install..

I would wipe it but keep it enabled in Nagios 2.x for future restarts.

Is there any utility to convert status data and retention data from 1.x
format or 2.x format?

Or do you choose to lose the data when upgrade?
