Are you using a distribution stock version of strip? It might help if
you let us know what version of Debian you are using. Where there any
errors reported when compiling?

Nagios 1.x is very old. Nagios-2 was released about a year and a half
ago and Nagios-3 is approaching. There were many enhancements and
bugfixes in the intervening releases. You really should be using the
latest version of Nagios-2 unless you specifically need the postgres
database support that existed in the 1.x version.
