What people have been trying to tell you is that you don't configure
Nagios for SMTP authentication. Nagios itself doesn't use SMTP.
You need to configure the mailer on your machine (whatever you happen to
use) to relay through your SMTP server, and that's also where you need
to configure the authentication. How you do that depends on which
mailer you use.
