Nagios Startup Failure

Where have you looked? nagios.log should have *something*. If it  
doesn't nagios may be segfaulting or some other problem like that. / 
var/log/messages may have information in that case. As previously  
indicated, verifying your config with '-v' or running from the command  
line in the foreground (/path/to/nagios /path/to/nagios.cfg) will  
likely provide useful information.
