"Connection refused" with check_tcp and derivates

Hi.
I have a problem with check_tcp and its derivates (check_pop,
check_spop, check_simap and others).
When they are runned automatically by Nagios checks they give me a
"connetion refused" critical error, but if I execute them in the
command line as the user "nagios" they works good:

POP3     CRITICAL      07-30-2009      10:28:28      0d 22h 5m 45s
 4/4      Connessione rifiutata

server:/# su nagios -c "/usr/local/nagios/libexec/check_pop -H
mail.server.address"
POP OK - 0,044 second response time on port 110 [+OK IMAP server
ready.]|time=0,044167s;;;0,000000;10,000000

I don't understand what is the problem, could you help me please?
