I personally added indexes on the following fields :
* servicechecks / service_object_id
* servicechecks / state
* hostcheck / host_object_id
* hostcheck / state
* objects / objecttype_id
* services / host_object_id
* statehistory / object_id
* statehistory / state_change
* statehistory / state
* statehistory / state_time
* statehistory / last_state
* hoststatus / last_hard_state
* servicestatus / last_hard_state

Some may be useless to you.

Objet: [Nagios-users] Nagios, ndoutils and database indexes

Hello:

We run nagios 3.0.6 with ndoutils and nagvis for host visualization. We had some problems with our nagios server a couple of weeks ago and we believe it is related to mysql performance, we could see that the mysql process was consumming from 80 to 90 % of the CPU in the monitoring server at certain times. We could solve the problem by applying a couple of indexes to the nagios database (the one used by ndoutils) as recommended in thread:

http://www.mail-archive.com/nagios-users@lists.sourceforge.net/msg23943.html

Afterwords we enabled monitoring for the nagios database by using the check_mysql_health plugin and we see that the index usage for the nagios database is under 10%. I am not a Database Administrator but I believe this is a very low index usage.

I would like to konw if anyone has any recommendations about database indexes applicable to the nagios database for ndoutils/nagvis.

Any tips/hints are appreciated

//Marco
