nagios3 does not honor -t value

Dear list,

socket time out problem reappeared in my nagios after upgrading to
nagios3. It reports

CRITICAL - Socket timeout after 10 seconds
````````````````````

Though for that particular service I have already  " -t 30" enabled. It
seems nagios3 does not honor the -t any more. Any clue ?
