Going Nuts trying to get check_by_ssh to work

yes running the check on the client works fine :
/usr/local/nagios/libexec> ./check_users -w 5 -c 8
USERS OK - 1 users currently logged in |users=1;5;8;0
I am beginning to think it has to be something really stupid...
