imap check plugin that outputs the time taken?

Hi,

I'm using the IMAP check plugin that actually logs into the server (from
nagios-exchange).
Unfortunately, it is not possible to specify a timelimit for such a login.

Has anybody got a plugin that actually does that?
Or knows a simple way to extend the given plugin so that it offers this
functionality?
As it is, I must assume that it can take all time it wants to complete the
login, completely defeating the purpose...
