Monitoring vpn tunnels and application firewalls on network devices and hardware firewalls using nagios

Can Nagios help me in monitoring vpn tunnels on network devices and what type of information I can get while monitoring the same and can I monitor things like application firewall and hardware firewalls using nagios.
