This might help you out. You can use the hostdependency object with "hostgroup_name"
and "dependent_hostgroup_name" definitions:<br>

<title>hostgroup escalations?</title>
<!-- Converted from text/rtf format -->
<p><font size="2" face="Arial">I've read through all of the docs and FAQ's
and I am not sure this can be done. For future ease of administration I
would like to be able to set up hostgroup dependencies, such as:</font></p>
<p><font size="2" face="Arial">define hostgroupdependency{</font><br>
<font size="2" face="Arial"> host_name
network device</font><br>
<font size="2" face="Arial"> dependent_hostgroup_name
hostgroup</font><br>
<font size="2" face="Arial"> notification_failure_criteria
d,u</font><br>
<font size="2" face="Arial"> }</font></p>
<p><font size="2" face="Arial">I manage a rather large Nagios build (over
2,000 checks) and would like to just be able to change hosts in my hostgroups
file and have the host dependencies already set up. I have service and host
dependencies set up but when I tried to set up the hostgroup dependency it
didn't like the syntax. Do you know any way around this? I guess I can
just copy and paste straight from the hostgroups.cfg directly to the dependencies.cfg
but I figured this would be a cleaner way to do it.</font></p>
<p><font size="2" face="Arial">btw, I found this FAQ very helpful... I
have seen many questions on the difference between parent/child relationship
and host dependencies on this list and elsewhere: <a href="http://www.nagios.org/faqs/viewfaq.php?faq_id=145">
