what about using /bin/echo to echo the command to check the syntax,
then run the plugin by hand from command line to see if there are any
issues?<br>

It may just be too fast for you to see.
I started top. Choose to check only processes of user nagios and did
increase the update frequency to 0.5 seconds
Then you can see the checks being sparked of.
