into play after an alert is triggered so I cannot think of why this change
would cause the problem you describe (If I am wrong please someone correct
me, I am here to learn) were there any patrches that went on you machines

<br><font size=2 face="Arial">Nagios has been running fine for us for months.
After a simple change to update the contact list, all check_nt checks are
periodically failing with socket timeouts. I have upgraded to Nagios 2.8
and I have tried increasing the timeout to 59 seconds, but the problem
is getting worse. It seems like every second or third check cycle all the
check_nt checks timeout. Then later they will all recover.</font>
