Is there a recommended or a sample framework (outside of nagios) that would be useful in implementing that page or is the page that it would point to something that is mostly home-grown by developers?

You may want to try nagstamon (http://nagstamon.ifw-dresden.de/). It's a small and beautiful desktop application which sits in your system tray and displays the live health of your IT infrastructure.

It gives you the ability to directly SSH/RDP to your desired host, which can be extended and made simple by setting up one time passwordless authentication on your *nix servers. After using it you don't even need to keep a constant eye on Nagios dashboard. Think about all the time and efforts saved :)

Hope this will be of some help.

Thanks
